Building AI-Native
Mortgage Companies.

Plainbox is working with one of the largest non-bank mortgage lenders in the southeastern United States, transforming the firm from AI-Assisted to AI-Native.

The engagement opened with a discovery phase. We mapped the company's intelligence: the underwriting overlays, the pricing exceptions, the operational rules held in three people's heads. Out of that work came a clear picture of which workflow rebuilds were worth doing first.

The first two rebuilds were PRISM and ELEVATE. PRISM is a technology cost intelligence platform that turns vendor invoices into per-channel and per-loan unit economics. ELEVATE is a sales intelligence application that combines real-time market data with operational data from the loan origination system, giving the wholesale and retail teams a view of client activity and engagement opportunities they did not have before.

The client is now in the next phase: a six-month AI Department as a Service engagement. The training curriculum is running across the company. The agent infrastructure is being designed. The next set of workflow rebuilds is being scoped. ELEVATE is being extended into the agent layer where it sits as the operating layer of the AI-Native mortgage company.

ELEVATE

ELEVATE is a custom AI application suite for our client's wholesale and retail channels. Built on a serverless Aurora database, it ingests dynamic market data from trusted sources and combines it with operational data from the company's loan origination system. The result is a real-time view of client activity and engagement opportunities that account managers have never had access to before.

  • Real-time data. Lock and funded volume, pipeline, channel mix, market trends, sourced live from the LOS and refreshed continuously.
  • 360-degree client profiles. Every borrower and every TPO partner viewed as a single subject with full history, current state, and forward signal.
  • Trending and predictive analytics. Forecasts for the desk, the loan officer, the channel, and the company.
  • Agentic AI for loan scenarios and client engagement. Agents pre-analyze exceptions, draft outreach, and surface opportunities the team would otherwise miss.
  • Global intelligence with channel-specific tools. The same data, the same trends, surfaced differently depending on whether the user is an executive, an account executive, a retail loan officer, or a TPO partner.

Technology Cost Intelligence

PRISM

PRISM is the byproduct of our discovery work at this mortgage client that turned into a one-of-a-kind AI application. Using vendor invoices, the app dynamically tracks the total cost of every technology tool used in loan origination and servicing, applying expenses to channels and down to the loan level.

  • Invoice ingestion and classification. Every vendor invoice read, classified, and mapped to operational categories.
  • Cost-per-channel. Wholesale and retail expense allocation visible in a single dashboard.
  • Cost-per-loan. The true unit economics of every loan, including every dollar of technology spend behind it.

PRISM is not the flagship product. ELEVATE is. But PRISM is how we surface the kind of operational truth most mortgage companies cannot see, and it is one of the assets we built during the discovery phase of the engagement.
